I had the great priveledge of showing Bergman to Arkansas auds for the first time when I ran the UofA film series in 1962-66.
I rented them from Janus and it was my first time as well to see these films that werent available otherwise in that state.
Virtually no one in the auds, 2 screenings of 500 each, had seen these films before and we all were awestruck, starting with The Seventh Seal, then- The Virgin Spring, Wild Strawberries, The Magician, Smiles of a Summer Night and Through a Glass Darkly. Had films ever so internally addressed the human condition before this genius of the psyche? Would we have learned to love the movies as much as we do without Bergman’s indelible mark on our souls?
Where are you? When is SW30 being released? Wassup in general with you, sir?
